Choosing fiber or 5G for a rental is an address and contract decision before it is a speed decision. Your expected stay, permission to install equipment, working routine and moving plans all matter. A higher advertised rate cannot solve every practical problem inside an apartment.
Separate the connection from home Wi-Fi
Fiber brings service through an optical connection; a 5G router receives it over the mobile network. Both still need to distribute that connection around your rooms. A poor result in a distant bedroom may be a Wi-Fi issue even when the incoming service is working well. An extender helps with indoor distribution; it does not automatically repair a weak mobile signal.
Confirm the exact unit
Check the national address and building information. If there is a fiber distribution plate, ask the provider to confirm installation eligibility using its details. Neighborhood coverage is only the starting point. For 5G, combine coverage information with an assessment of the intended indoor router position. A neighbor's result is useful context, not a guarantee for your apartment.
Match the commitment to your stay
Ask what happens if you move before the commitment ends. Does relocation require a request? Does the new address need approval? Are device obligations outstanding? Wireless home internet is not automatically portable: a SIM-based plan can still be restricted to its registered location. Keep the applicable answers in writing.
Plan installation with the property owner
Agree on drilling, cable routes and equipment placement before booking an installer. External receivers may require access to shared areas. Do not assume a roof or facade can be used without permission. A fiber entry point at the front door may also need an indoor cable or access point to reach a back-room office.
Compare your real working day
Two simultaneous work calls need reliable upload and responsiveness, as well as download capacity. Count active tasks at the busiest hour rather than every device in the home. Test from the room you actually use, at a relevant time, and compare wired performance with Wi-Fi when possible.
Consider an illustrative three-bedroom apartment with a distant office and a planned two-year stay. Confirmed fiber with a practical cable route may be attractive. If installation is unavailable, verified 5G reception with a workable indoor distribution plan can be a sensible alternative. These are decision examples, not measured results or provider rankings.
Before you request service
Prepare the exact address, expected length of stay, installation permissions, simultaneous-use requirements and monthly budget. Ask about VAT, one-time fees, device terms and relocation. The guide can help review available options, but the provider confirms service eligibility and contract conditions. Subscription payments go directly to the telecom provider.
